What is adoption?
For whatever reason, you may not be ready to parent a child at this stage in your life. Have you considered adoption? Adoption is an incredibly courageous choice made by a birth mother to place her child under the care of another. Although she will always be the biological mother of the child, the birth mother gives her little one the stability of a family who is looking to love a child as their own, permanently assuming all parental rights. Though it is a heroic sacrifice, the birth mother who chooses adoption is offered guidance and support every step of the way throughout her pregnancy and thereafter.
The birth mother who makes this choice for her child decides whether she prefers to have an open or closed adoption. An open adoption allows for a birth mother to have a relationship with her child and the adoptive parents, while a closed adoption chooses to have no interaction. A birth mother also gets to decide whether or not she would like to receive updates and photos of her child and to what degree she wants to be kept informed about her child's life.
Over 120,000 adoptions occur in the United States every year. If you are pregnant and feel that you cannot support your child, don’t worry. There are hundreds of families who are looking to give a child a loving home and a solid upbringing.
